Karamu

Every year Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo hosts Karamu, which is their signature annual black-tie gala supporting the zoo's conservation and education programs. In 2015, the client came to Schifino Lee requesting a Chinese lantern theme with an emphasis on manatees. The challenge was to find a way to take massive mammals and make them light and delicate to fit within the Chinese lantern theme. For this piece, we decided to go with a piece that was handcrafted, dainty, and elegant. This included hand-painting the elements and vectoring each intricate piece on the red folded shell. From the outer shell to the red ribbon sealing the invitation, this piece was carefully crafted through the use of painting, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
